Strip Diagrams are HUGE in our mathematics classrooms, but how do we effectively use this model and connect it to what our students already know? In this session, we will learn how to draw connections and effectively use strip diagrams in various grade levels.
Number lines are models that we often don't use, but how could effectively incorporate number lines to grow our student's knowledge in mathematics? We will learn how to incorporate and use both vertical and horizontal number lines and how those connect to other concepts.
This session will focus on practical, student-centered strategies for using individual data trackers and conducting meaningful data talks. Participants will see how to guide students in understanding where they currently are, where they need to go, and how to stay motivated throughout the process. A live demonstration of effective data conversations will highlight ways to build student confidence at all performance levels, including those below, at, or above STAAR expectations. These tools and routines not only empower students to take ownership of their learning, but also support campuses in meeting growth targets for 4–8 STAAR, specifically Domain 2 within the accountability system.
